Industrial fans: characteristics and use cases

Regulating temperature and air quality in large commercial and industrial spaces can be difficult. Proper ventilation and airflow are essential to help maintain consistent temperatures throughout the space and keep operating costs down.

Fans are commonly used to help cool and ventilate large spaces, but not all fans are up to the job or work effectively. It is therefore important to choose a fan that has been designed for this type of application.

What makes an industrial fan different?

There are two types of fans available on the market today, general purpose fans and industrial fans. At first glance they may seem identical, but there are substantial differences:

Durability: Industrial fans are built to last under heavy and continuous use. General purpose fans, on the other hand, are designed for lighter and/or intermittent use in homes or offices. The difference is in the details. An industrial fan is characterised by stronger materials and bearings, stronger welds and construction, and a more powerful motor, allowing it to last longer and maintain its performance over time.

Size/Capacity: Industrial fans are usually larger, and therefore capable of generating more pressure, with airflows of up to 100,000 m³/h.

Why are larger industrial fans more suitable for large spaces?

Better air flow: It takes up to 34 small conventional fans to do the job of one large industrial fan. The column of air produced is able to move more efficiently around obstacles, distributing the air throughout the space.

Lower energy costs: For the same volume of air, an industrial fan requires much less electricity than a number of small fans, leading to considerable savings.

Quieter working environment: Small fans need a high operating speed and are therefore noisier. A suitably sized industrial fan, on the other hand, can move large volumes of air effectively even at lower speeds, while remaining quiet. The result is greater comfort for employees and improved productivity.

An industrial fan can make a huge difference to your facility's energy bills, safety and productivity. Investing in a quality industrial fan is a value-based decision that will reward you for years to come.
